    Qualification Phase:
The qualification phase is a four week period where KOTH players compete in the rankings for points! The top 18 point earners after the qualification phase qualify for the elimination phase. Additionally, earning points can qualify you for some awesome rewards, and is one of the only ways to attain some of the ever-elusive King Challenge Tokens!

    Points are earned as follows:

    Figure 1: Point Earnings

    Rewards based on Qualification Phase
    Point Ranking Reward
Rank 1 1 King Challenge Token, 10 badges
    Rank 2 10 badges
    Rank 3 9 badges
    Rank 4 8 badges
    Rank 5 7 badges
    Rank 6 6 badges
    Rank 7-10 5 badges
    Rank 11-14 4 badges
    Rank 15-18 3 badges
    Figure 2: Badge Earning (QP)

Points can only be gained from a person once every 3 days during the qualification period.

During the Elimination Phase, the top 10 players at the end of the qualification phase compete for the title of season champion! The players who rank between 3rd and 10th of most point totals play elimination style, 3 plays 10, 4 plays 9, etc. in best of 5 series where the player with the higher point total chooses the initial starting map. (if it draws, the other player chooses the next map) The two players that emerge out of that bracket play the top 2 players in best of 7 series, and the winner of those four players becomes the season champion and the king for the next season!

The rankings in the next season are determined by the performances of people in the tournament. Winner gets king, finalist is rank 2, semifinalists are ranks 3-4, quarterfinalists are ranks 5-6, (and the remaining players are ranks 7-10), with point totals as tiebreakers.

Challenging and defending still goes on normally during the elimination phase, however, points are not accumulated for those wins.

Season Champion 2 King Challenge Tokens, 20 badges
Season Finalist 1 King Challenge Tokens, 20 badges
    Season Semifinalist 15 badges

    Tournament Participant 10 badges

    The Mini Grand Tournament!
For the players who just didn’t make it to the Grand Tournament, we now have the Mini Grand Tournament! Vassals receive points for winning as well, as you can see in the new point system. The players ranked 11 to 18 (at the points ranking) qualify for the Mini Grand Tournament.

KOTH is based on a ranking of all the players joining the tournament. It follows these rules:
    • To join KOTH, you have to have 2000 battle score and a Skype account. You may not join with two or more accounts, or if you resigned from KOTH two weeks ago or less. If you meet the requirements and wish to join, fill in this form. You will be added in the participant's Skype chatroom after you respond to the contact request of a manager and confirm your sign-up. You can start challenging right away.
    • There are different classes of players:
    • The first 10 players are noblemen. (Nobleman are separated into Gold, Silver, and Bronze status. There are 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze noblemen)
    • Players between 11 and 15 are squires.
    • Players between 16 and 35 are vassals.
    • New players start from the bottom of the ranking.
    • Players may challenge other players to move up rank.
    • Challenging ranges:
    • If you want to challenge a vassal, he has to be within 10 positions above you.
    • If you want to challenge a squire or nobleman, he has to be within 5 positions above you.

Player vs. Player battles are best of 5, all KOTH rules apply
    • If the CHALLENGING Player wins, he moves up the rankings, in a manner described below, and the defending player earns a badge. The defending player collects a certain type of badge, depending on the class of the challenger. You get a badge for losing a defend series to a vassal, a and badge for losing a defend series to a squire, and a badge for losing a defend series to a nobleman. The defending player receives no badges if they forfeited the series, voluntarily or involuntarily.
    • If you win against a vassal, you move up to their position.
    • If you win against a squire or noble as a vassal, you move up to their position, unless they are higher than rank 14, in which case you move up to a maximum of rank 14, no matter how highly ranked the squire or noble was.
    • If you win against a squire as a squire, you move up to their position.
    • If you win against a nobleman as a squire, you move up to their position, unless they are higher than rank 9, in which case you move up to a maximum of rank 9. A maximum rank change of 5 is permitted; beating someone above 5 positions above you gets you a maximum rank increase by 5. (e.g. if rank 15 beats the rank 7 player they are rank 10, not rank 7)
    • If you win against a nobleman as a nobleman, you move up to their position, unless they are more than 5 spots above you, in which case you move up 5 spots. You may not move past rank 2 unless you have beaten the current king in a King Series.
    • If the DEFENDING Player wins, no one changes rank. The defending player collects a certain type of badge, depending on the class of the challenger. You get a badge for beating a vassal, a and a badge for beating a squire and a badge for beating a nobleman, and 2 badges for defending as king, whether it is a king or regular series. The badges can be spent in the badges shop.

Playing the King and King Challenge Tokens
    • Playing the king in a normal series is free of charge, and may be done by anyone in the king's range. A normal series with the king is a best of 5 series, where if the challenger wins, they attain a maximum rank of 2. Beating the king in a normal series rewards the challenger two King Challenge Tokens.
    • In order to play the king in a King Series, you must be between ranks 2-6, spend a King Challenge Token, and not have challenged the current king within 72 hours. Playing the king in a king series within 48 hours of the last time challenged costs 2 King Challenge Tokens, playing them within 24 hours of last time challenged costs 3 King Challenge Tokens; these limits are unaffected by perks and temporary badge purchases. Defends are unaffected by this limit.
    • The starting map and starting side for a King Series is determined by the king; however, if the map draws, as the king chose the map, the challenger has the right to pick the second map. (Normally, if the starting map draws, the defender gets to choose the second map.) As a result of this, series that do not start off as king series may not be converted into king series, and the king may not have more than one active king series at once, unless the managers explicitly provide an exception. (They may have as many normal series active at once as they wish) Temporary King Challenge Tokens are removed every time the king gets dethroned (except from the former and current king) and are converted into 3 badges apiece. All methods of earning King Challenge Tokens earn Permanent King Challenge Tokens, which remain when the King is dethroned, except for beating the King in a normal series, which earns Temporary King Challenge Tokens. A maximum of 4 temporary King Challenge Tokens may be accumulated at one point; extra temporary tokens are converted into 3 badges apiece. Temporary King Challenge Tokens have to be used within two weeks, otherwise they get removed.

King Challenge Tokens are gained through:
    • Beating the current king in a regular series, which earns 2 temporary King Challenge Tokens
    • Defending 3 noblemen in a row as the current king, which earns 1 temporary King Challenge Token, which will get visible when the King gets dethroned.
    • Ranking within the top player in terms of points over the qualification phase, who gets 1 permanent King Challenge Tokens as a reward for his/her outstanding performance over the week.
    • Rewards for grand tournament; finalist gets 1 permanent King Challenge Tokens, season champion gets 2 permanent King Challenge Tokens
    • Purchasing them from the badge shop at a cost of 20 badges per 1 permanent King Challenge Token

    Additional
    • The Prince is the second highest ranked player in KOTH. If the Prince defends 5 noblemen in a row, he gets a temporary KCT. If the King loses, and therefore the Prince loses its spot, the count won't stop. In a Prince-streak, if you win twice against the same player, the second win doesn't count.
    • It is the responsibility of the winner of these battles, even if the loser spent badges, to enter the result of the series into this form.
    • Two players who have battled must wait 3 days after the battle is fully completed before battling each other again
    • You may play more than one series at once.
    • If a series is interrupted and is not continued for 7 days, the player who is unable to finish the series loses.
    • Players are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to record their games. If you want your series to be on the King of the Hill youtube channel, please upload them unlisted to your youtube channel and fill in this form.
    • Any disputes will be resolved by the KOTH managers.
    • Extended periods of inactivity will cause players to get removed. Players who don't play for 3 weeks get removed from the chat and the rankings.

If you for some reason can't play KOTH in a while, you can go into holiday mode. [HM] rules below:
    • Apply to or from [HM] using this form.
    • You cannot play any battles while you are in the holiday mode.
    • If you play a game, you leave the holiday mode.
    • You can be in Holiday mode for at most 6 weeks.
    • You have to wait at least 48 hours, before you leave HM again.
    • If you are in holiday mode, you won't get moved because of inactivity.
    • You still move down if a player above you gets beaten.
    • Ranks 1-3 may also go into [HM] but they will get moved down to the equivalent of non-[HM] rank 4 if they do so.
    • If you go into [HM] your name will be removed from the rankings and relocated to a list of participants in [HM]. A separate document is kept which records the relative positions of players, which will help us determine your rank upon leaving [HM].

All actions that are in "bad faith," that is, not in the friendly, polite spirit of KOTH are prohibited. The managers reserve the right to judge whether actions taken in "bad faith" and assign consequences accordingly.

    The Knights
In King of the Hill there are some very strong players who are called Knights. You need to spend badges to play them. If you win against a knight, you jump to the 14th position in the rankings, which is a squire position. Series against knights are best of 5, all the King of the Hill rules apply. You have to pay 2 badges to challenge a knight.

    The knights are:

    Smurfblade
    Wins: 5
    Losses: 0

    l5159753
    Wins: 6
    Losses: 0

    Rules
    • BTDB Assault Mode.
    • Best of 5 games (Best of 7 vs. the King in a King Series). Each player earns .5 if it is a draw.
    • First map is Zen Garden. Loser picks subsequent map. Maps cannot be repeated until all maps have been played once. If it is a draw, the person who didn't pick the map on which the draw happened picks new map.
    • Only 4 towers allowed. No spying and/or hacking.
    • If a player disconnects, the opponent has the right to claim the win, but the players can also agree on a rematch or to give the win to the obvious winner. Either way, the opponent can decide.
    • The game ends at the end of round 39. (Or the start of 40) The person with the most lives is the winner. In the event both players are on the same number of lives, the game is a draw.
    • Any intentional breaking of these rules will result into a punishment according to the offense.

I'm pretty sure that KOTH won't mind if you only play through the weekends if that's what you meant. Sadly, I don't think anyone is as active, so challenging someone might be hard, though you can rank up by challenging inactive players in a very complex way.

The minimum amount of series to play is once a week, so yes, weekends only can work.

On another note, please accept my skype request if you want to be added to this at all.

You can lock up your Glaive Lords, Dartling Guns, and Monkey Villages once again, because it is yet again time to Pop and Awe! King of the Hill presents to you: Season 14!

First of all, congratulations to l5159753 and Sixth Affiliate, the respective winners of the season 13 grand tournament and mini-grand tournament; l5159753 is crowned season champion and all participants in the tournaments have received their rewards.

            Season 13 Grand Tournament

            Season 13 Mini-Grand Tournament

Now let's get on with season 14, shall we?

            Season 14
After allowing most of the KOTH participants to give their opinion on the mini-season season 13 introduced, the KOTH management has taken some decisions.

            Mini-season: “2pick2”
During the Elimination Phase, series can be played in the 2pick2-format. The 2pick2-format works as followed:
            • Player A picks two towers, then Player B picks two different towers. Both Players will play with these four towers.
            • For the first map, the defending player (Defender) decides who picks his towers first.
            • In case of a draw, the player who previously did not choose who picks first picks first..
            • For the second map, and so forth, the Player who lost the previous map picks the map, and decides who chooses first.
            Mini-season changes
            • King Series (as well as Tournament Series) are played with Normal rules.
            • Mini-season rules only apply if both players agree on the rules before the series starts.
            Video Gameplay
The KOTH management will provide some strategy examples before the mini-season starts, so players understand better what to do and are less afraid of going in series without knowledge of the towers to use.

            Introduction Video
Coming soon! The KOTH management is still working on this, our sincerest apologies.

            Reranks
Only the top 6 from the Grand Tournament will be reranked from now on.

Have fun in season 14 of King of the Hill!

Thanks for putting the links in the top. This really helps for people only looking for the links, haha.

On another note, I cannot believe I've become #6 after the tournament, seems way too high but you won't hear me complaining.

Can I request something that I think will change this for the better? Can you make another version of this, (exactly the same) but on the mobile/iOS/Steam version, those are most likely the most popular.

There is a version for mobile/iOS (not for steam). It is called Mobile King of the Hill, formerly known as Battle of the Mobile. But it is regulated via Facebook.

Keep in mind that even though they are both named King of the Hill, they are as different as can be. There are different managers, documents, rankings, players, forms of communication, game rules, and a lot more. Flash and mobile King of the Hill rarely ever interact.
